When Theresa Lucas opened her original Good Grapes wine boutique in Glencoe in 2008, it was a tiny 170 square feet. In contrast, her recently opened Winnetka store is a spacious 1,200 square feet, with room for all of Lucas’ treasures plus a winekeeper that allows her to sample eight wines by the glass in store. Inside these grape-colored walls, Lucas offers wines from around the globe. “I taste them all blind,” she says. “I don’t know where they’re from, or who produced them. I make all my buying decisions based on flavor.”
More good news: There will be no corkage fee on bottles purchased and consumed on site. She’s partnering with Taste on Chestnut across the street to provide nibbles and Ravinia baskets; it’s a symbiotic neighborhood relationship that she relishes. Look for tastings with visiting wine stars in this prime corner location.
