Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center will host its annual Rising to the Challenge benefit on Thursday, Dec. 9. This virtual benefit, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Turning Point’s crisis program, The Living Room, will take place from 7-8 p.m.

The Living Room program has proven itself to be an invaluable resource to our community, and we are so excited to focus our annual benefit this year on the 10th birthday of such an important program for adults in need of immediate crisis support,” said Turning Point CEO Ann Fisher Raney.

Turning Point, located in Skokie, Illinois, boasts over 50 years of excellence as a leader in its field. Each year, it serves approximately 1,300 adults and children (ages 5 and up) from throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Committed to providing expert, affordable and compassionate care to its community and primarily low-income clientele, Turning Point works to provide solid support when its clients need it most. The outpatient mental health center has received both local and national awards as well as the highest rating from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

During Covid-19, Turning Point shifted its programming to remote formats and substantially expanded its free crisis support programs, including The Living Room and resource center. At no cost to guests, The Living Room provides a safe, trauma-informed, expertly staffed alternative to hospital emergency rooms. It has expanded to operate 365 days a year and will continue to operate both in-person and remotely on a walk-in and call-in basis.

The Living Room offers a calm and comfortable environment in which guests can resolve crises with an experienced and compassionate team of therapists and recovery support specialists. Turning Point’s team bring to their work personal lived experience with mental illness and provide uniquely skilled support for guests in crisis. Expanded to include a resource center, The Living Room assists guests with a wide range of needs. The program has maintained an excellent track record: in recent years, it has maintained at least a 98% success rate in deflecting guests away from visits to emergency rooms.

“Turning Point’s mission is to provide solid support when you need it most, and The Living Room is a great example of our commitment to that mission,” said Raney. “Our Rising to the Challenge benefit offers us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this 10th anniversary and spread the word about this free resource for adults in crisis.”

Tickets for the Rising to the Challenge benefit can now be reserved; admission is free. Those who wish to show their support for Turning Point can purchase premium tickets at $25 each. All proceeds from the event will support the wide range of mental health services that Turning Point provides to the Chicagoland community.
