Top Spring 2015 Beauty Trends

Each year, Fashion Week and the red carpet dictate many of the most popular trends of the season. In 2015, expect to see easy-to-replicate beauty styles and fantastic, new beauty products that will help you achieve these looks. Here are our top trends you’ll want to try for yourself!

Neutral Eye Shadows

Rich brown and taupe shadows were all over the runways from Gucci to Giorgio Armani. We love this trend because it’s wearable and works on different skin tones. Blend the neutral shadow onto your lid and into the crease. Finish with classic black mascara. Try Bobbi’s Browns Eye Palette or Giorgio Armani’s “Eyes to Kill” Shadow Quad.

Oils in New Forms

Beauty oils should still be on your radar, but now you’ll see them being incorporated into new products such as YSL’s Volupté Tint-In-Oil (think stain-meets-conditioning essential oil for your lips). The oil will give you added moisture throughout the day and the color will stay on until you hit the pillow.

Tinted Lashes

So many women pay top dollar for tinted lashes that stay dark even after removing eye makeup. Estée Lauder’s Little Black Primer sets and tints lashes so you’ll feel like Twiggy! Jessica Kramer, makeup artist at Westfield Old Orchard Nordstrom, says, “Unlike most lash primers, this one is black and can be worn alone. Use it to tint and lift your bare lashes or use it to amplify your current mascara by adding extra volume and length. Set this on top of your mascara for a water-proof top coat to prevent smudging and flaking.”

Boho Waves

According to Rhona Kane, Creative Director at Blowtique, it’s all about the boho waves this spring. At Blowtique, Rhona creates this sexy, natural style using just a blowdryer and a round brush. A few spritzes of Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray will set the waves.

Messy Braids

Kane also predicts messy braids (pictured above) as a huge spring trend. The best part of this trend is that it doesn’t have to look perfect. Once your hair is secured into a braid, pull the braid gently apart with your hands so it looks “undone.”

Naked Nails with Graphic Accents

“When it comes to nail trends, we’ve seen everything on the runways from intricate nail art to 3D nails,” says Nicole Pearl, creator of beauty blog The Beauty Girl. “This spring, I love that it’s all about naked nails with graphic accents, which is simple to recreate at home. No need to apply polish and the options are endless. For example, you can take a colored nail pen and draw a horizontal line down each nail or you can just fill in the half moons. Make the look as edgy or fashion-forward as you wish.”

Spring Clean Your Beauty Products

Spring cleaning isn’t just for reorganizing your closet. It’s the perfect time to spring clean all of the cosmetics and hair products taking up space in your bathroom. When you use makeup that’s past its prime, you risk the growth and spread of bacteria which can lead to skin irritation, eye infections, and breakouts. Since makeup often doesn’t have an expiration date, keep track of when you open a new product. Cleaning your makeup brushes regularly with a little baby shampoo and water will help your makeup last. If a product has a change in smell or change in texture, it’s time to throw it way. You can also refer to our handy guide below.

  • Liquid Foundation: 1 year (or until it starts to separate)
  • Face Powder, Blush and Bronzer: 2 years (or until it starts to crumble)
  • Mascara: 2 to 3 months
  • Powdered Eye Shadow: 1 year
  • Cream Eye Shadow: 6 months
  • Pencil Eyeliner: 2 years (sharpen to extend life)
  • Liquid Eyeliner: 3 months
  • Lipstick: 1 to 2 years
  • Gloss: 2 years
  • Lipliner: 2 years or more (sharpen to extend life)
  • Nail Polish: 2 years
  • Hair Products: “Typically hair products last for 18 months from the time that they’re opened, although sprays and aerosols can last a bit longer,” Kane says. “If they’re stored in a cool, dry place, this can ensure longevity. Manufacturers are constantly working to improve their products and the technology is becoming more advanced—just another reason to always update and refresh your product collection.”
