On Thursday March 3rd, 230 students from Budlong Elementary, on Chicago’s Northwest side, got active wearing their UNICEF Kid Power bands. The day full of fun kicked off Chicago’s Kid Power Month (Feb 29-Mar 25), a challenge to get kids active to save lives. Students participated in a pep rally with a special surprise appearance by R2-D2, representing Star Wars: Force For Change, who helped get the kids up and active for an afternoon full of active fun.
As “the world’s first wearable-for-good”, UNICEF’s Kid Power band tracks children’s activity which is converted into kid power points. These points then unlock therapeutic food packets for malnourished children around the world, making it possible for children to make a difference for the lives of other children. So far, more that 6,000 kids across Chicagoland have earned over 130,000 points, unlocking over 13,000 food packets for malnourished children across the globe.
