Before the pandemic, approximately 225,000 Chicagoland kids experienced poverty, and this number has since drastically increased.
Due to Covid-19, many Chicago families have been financially burdened by clothing insecurity and lacked access to essential resources. Our team at Cradles to Crayons Chicago—which provides children from birth to age 12 the essentials they need to navigate the world with confidence and self-respect—has distributed essential items such as diapers, new clothing, hygiene supplies and books to more than 160,000 kids since March 2020. But as the pandemic continues, temperatures drop and families become more vulnerable to financial and housing challenges, we have to do more.
This winter, we aim to provide 37,000 Chicagoland kids with new and like-new winter coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves, warm clothes and hygiene items as part of our Gear Up for Winter initiative. Without basics like boots and warm winter coats that fit, kids can’t safely go outside to play. And now more than ever, we need to make sure our most vulnerable children stay safe and healthy.
We attribute our success to our network of supporters and community members who want to make an impact and today, we’re calling on you to help us change the lives of 37,000 children.
With your help, we can make a difference in the lives of 37,000 children.
Make It Better Foundation will match all Cradles to Crayons Chicago donations up to $16,000 to purchase 3,500 new winter coats.
