The Illinois Holocaust Museum hosted a celebratory brunch on June 29 for over 100 Holocaust survivors to honor the survivors’ endless contributions to our community. The brunch’s keynote speech was delivered by Abbey Romanek, The Honorable Judge of Circuit Court of Cook County, Museum Board of Trustees member and daughter of a Survivor. Romanek has dedicated herself to using the museum’s exhibitions to teach our community the universal lessons that came from the Holocaust: the need to combat hatred, prejudice and indifference in today’s world.
“As the child of a Survivor, I knew from a very early age that I had a responsibility to teach the lessons of the Holocaust to the next generation,” Romanek said at the event.
