SchoolsRule’s Matching Grant Campaign Raises $60,000 For Marin’s Public Schools

SchoolsRule-Marin is a coalition of the all public school foundations in Marin working to benefit every public school student in the County while also engaging the community in discussions about the important issues facing our schools and public education. In pursuit of equitable education funding, SchoolsRule’s mission is to encourage large impact actions by bringing together individual foundation leaders to work collectively to bring new funding sources to the public schools across Marin County’s diverse communities.

Their mission is more critical than ever during these unprecedented times as schools must rely on the community to fund the gap between what the state provides and what it actually costs to educate children. To amplify the impact of SchoolsRule’s annual year end fundraising campaign, Make It Better Foundation’s founder, Susan Noyes, and two anonymous donors stepped up to offer a $20,000 match for gifts made by December 31, 2020. The campaign raised over $40,000, more than doubling the match amount for a total of $60,000.

SchoolsRule

All funds collected are distributed on a per-student basis to provide direct support for literacy, the arts, technology and health programs, helping to ensure that excellent educational opportunities are available to every student in every public school in Marin, regardless of zip code. Since its inception in 2011, SchoolsRule has distributed over $4.8 million, making a tremendous impact on the students and districts most in need — most notably San Rafael and Novato, Marin’s largest districts.

“We are beyond grateful for our generous sponsors who continue to demonstrate their belief that every child deserves the very best educational opportunities, regardless of current circumstances or zip code.” said Trisha Garlock. “Thank you to our founding partners, the Marin Independent Journal, Marin Community Foundation and Venables Bell and to our dedicated business sponsors Redwood Credit Union, Gruber Family Foundation, Bank of Marin, Marin Sanitary Service, Lakeview Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, Hennessy Funds, Dominican Univerisity, PBLWorks, McLeran Roofing, Harbor Point Charitable Foundation, Fishman Supply and Sutter Health Novato Community Hospital.”

Join their sponsors and support each of Marin’s 36,044 students with a single contribution to SchoolsRule. Whether you have kids in public schools or not, every aspect of life improves when our public schools have the resources to do their job.
