Broadway in Chicago’s “Love, Loss & What I Wore” at Broadway Playhouse

Looking to have a fun girl’s night out? Women of all ages will relate to this witty collection of stories written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, which uses clothes and accessories to trigger the memories that come with them. Directed by Karen Carpenter, who directed the hit show in New York, the cast features stars including Barbara Robertson, who you might recognize from Writers’ Theatre’s “The Detective’s Wife” last season, and Emily Bergyl from “Desperate Housewives.”

Directed by North Shore native Robert Falls, this play tells the story of the brilliant and tortured painter Mark Rothko, played by the award-winning Edward Gero, as he struggles to complete a set of lucrative murals for a New York hotel in the 1960s. As Rothko battles to stay afloat, his fraught relationship with his young assistant, played by handsome Chicagoan Patrick Andrews, evolves.

Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play is a tale of one home in two decades. Jumping between the late 1950s and late 2000s, this play depicts the life and times of a northwest Chicago neighborhood, as a house changes hands on two occasions. Written by Bruce Norris with a nod to Lorraine Hansberry’s classic “A Raisin in the Sun,” this funny show examines how race relations have changed over a half century.

Art comes to life when a playwright mixes his stories with his troubled personal life on stage. Written by Tom Stoppard, this Tony-winning show examines love, art and reality through a play within a play. It’s directed by Writers’ Founder and Artistic Director Michael Halberstam, who directed “A Minister’s Wife” at Lincoln Center last year.
