The Museum of Science and Industry’s latest temporary exhibit, “Extreme Ice,” features photos and time-lapse videos of 24 glaciers from around the world that were taken by photographer James Balog and his team over the course of a few years. The exhibition will also highlight ways that people can make a difference when it comes to climate change.

Burlington Stores and WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease have teamed up to offer free heart health screenings and educational tips to women. After each screening, guests are encouraged to tag two friends on social media using #KnockOutHeartDisease and $5 will be donated to WomenHeart.

Classic Kids Winnetka Sessions Benefiting Adopt-a-Pet, Inc.

Just in time for Easter, parents can book a session at Classic Kids Photography this weekend and their child will get to take photos with adorable bunnies available for adoption through Wilmette Pet Center, which works with Adopt-a-Pet, Inc. to find homes for animals. $50 from each shoot will be donated to Adopt-a-Pet, Inc.

Adler Planetarium’s “Chasing Eclipses” will prepare visitors for the North American Solar Eclipse on Aug. 21 by giving them the opportunity to experience a solar eclipse, “meet” eclipse chasers from throughout history and more. Adler is also partnering with the DuSable Museum of African American History to present “Hidden Figures Revealed” March 22, 23 and 25. This Hyde Park Art Center exhibit will take a look at the representations of a black president in pop culture ahead of the creation of the Barack Obama Presidential Center.

Looking Ahead:

  • The 20th annual Chicago Improv Festival runs March 27 to April 2. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Rachel Dratch will headline the event along with Dan Harmon and Northbrook native Scott Adsit. Other local performers include Antoine McKay (Bunkie on “Empire”), Jimmy Carrane (host of podcast Improv Nerd) and groups Out da Box (Northwestern) and Joke Zero (Lake Forest College).
