How to Create Easy Summer Braid Styles

Sweaty summer days practically demand a beachy braid.

Look hot and stay cool with these low-maintenance looks that can be done at home in 10 minutes or less—perfect for a beach weekend, summer wedding or night out with friends (including a few great looks for younger girls).

We scoured the web to bring you these simple tutorials from some of the best beauty vloggers on YouTube. Happy braiding!

Braided bangs: Lauren Conrad made this easy braid an instant classic. It takes just a few minutes to create and works both dressed up and down. Pull your hair back in a pony for a cooler look, or wear your it down and let the braid do the talking.

French-braid bun: This elegant, effortless style can easily be dressed up for a wedding or party. The braided bun can be seen all over the red carpet on celebs like Jessica Alba and Nicole Richie. Note: It works best with longer, thicker hair.

Side fishtail braid: The fishtail is a much trendier alternative to the standard side braid. It might take a few practice runs to get the technique down, but once you’ve got it, this braid will become your go-to hairstyle.

French-braid updo: This style will you have you wondering, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Simply French braid your hair, tuck in the bottom ends and pin. Instant updo!

Subtle twist side braid: Adding a soft, romantic twist to a standard side braid is an easy way to upgrade a basic look (similar to Lauren Conrad’s hair pictured above). We love how put together it looks, when really it takes less than 5 minutes to throw in.

Pancake braids: Great on both kids and adults, this boho-chic look takes just minutes to create and is a great way to get your hair out of your face. The night before, apply a styling cream and comb your hair into a tight bun or two loose braids for perfect next-day curls that are heat- and damage-free.

Katniss braid: Recreate this famous diagonal Dutch braid that Katniss rocked in The Hunger Games. Young girls will especially love this look—and there’s plenty of time to practice before Catching Fire comes out!
