Runway to Real Way

The buzz during Fashion Week wasn’t just about the glam clothes. The crowds were also talking up the striking makeup and hairstyles that dominated the runway.

The following tips will help you convert these runway looks into your daily life whether you’re running errands or attending a fabulous event.

Defined brows
Gone are the days of skimpy brows. Instead embrace the look Brooke Shields made famous.  According to “The Beauty Girl,” national beauty editor and expert, Nicole Pearl, “strong brows can have a tendency to look contrived. Use a brow pencil and apply with short strokes for a natural finish.” You can also try a colored brow gel to fill in brows like the Natural Brow Shaper by Bobbi Brown.

Deep colored lips
Maybe it’s the current vampire trend, but deep berry and red lips ruled the runways. When doing a darker lip remember to keep the rest of your makeup minimal. Apply a creamy lipstick with full-on color and dab a bit of gloss or lip balm over it for moisture. Pearl suggests, “buffing flakes with a lip scrub or tooth brush first so the lipstick goes on evenly.”

Winged eyeliner
This ‘50s inspired look is not a full cat-eye, but will add a touch of drama to your eyes. At the end of your top, outer lash line, create an angled upward wing. You can always touch this up with a q-tip if your wing looks too exaggerated. To complete the look, make sure to curl your lashes and add lots of mascara.

Smoky eye shadow
Pearl explains, “Fashion and beauty trends are very much in sync right now. Everyone agrees that greige is the season’s “it” color. We’re seeing this grey-beige hybrid in sweaters, nail polish and even eye shadow; it’s a fresh take on neutrals.”  Greige and eggplant lids were accentuated with pale blue liner at the Brian Reyes show.  A subtle wash of color on eyes gives a sultry affect. Pair the smoky eye with a nude color on your lips.

Blunt bangs

Lea Michelle, Reese Witherspoon, and Kim Kardashian have all been sporting chic, blunt cut bangs for the new season. Bangs are especially flattering on an oval shaped face. Sleek layers throughout the rest of your hair will keep the look current.

Classic ponytail
From Louis Vuitton to DKNY, ponytails were all the rage at the fall shows, but ponytails can sometimes take on a schoolgirl vibe. Pearl advises, “to keep this look sleek and modern, pull your hair back and secure it in the middle of the back of your head. Anything higher requires that you put on a workout outfit.”
