Over the course of City Year Chicago‘s 27-year history, the organization has galvanized young change agents committed to the belief that every student has the right to a quality education and academic success no matter their zip code.

A passionate and dedicated team of 257 AmeriCorps members serve as near-peer mentors and tutors for over 17,000 students in 31 Chicago Public Schools. The AmeriCorps team members are in schools, all day, every day, providing a holistic, integrated approach to nurture students’ social-emotional and academic development. City Year Chicago’s ongoing commitment to advancing student learning is the “why” behind this critical work.

On May 26, City Year Chicago will hold its 21st Annual Ripples of Hope Virtual Gala. This year’s theme, “Serving to rebuild the foundation for the future together,” highlights the importance of the entire community joining forces to ensure equitable access to educational resources that many students are not afforded.

In that spirit of collaboration, City Year Chicago honors three of its most steadfast supporters who all represent different sectors of the ecosystem of the city. The honorees are Liz Thompson, President of the Cleveland Avenue Foundation for Education and original Executive Director of City Year Chicago, the Honorable Mayor Lori Lightfoot; and Janet Foutty, Executive Chair of the Board of Deloitte.

Myetie Hamilton, Executive Director and Vice President of City Year Chicago, said, “This is an exciting time for me personally and for us as an organization. This is my first Ripples of Hope Gala as the Executive Director. We could not be more energized to serve alongside our CPS school partners to support student’s academic and social-emotional growth.

“Our three honorees exemplify the spirit of collaboration and leadership that help power the amazing work our AmeriCorps members do in our partner schools every day. We are honored to serve our city and invite everyone to join us for this virtual celebration to learn more about our impact.”
