Support a Thriving Garfield Park Community: Donate or Register Now for Breakthrough’s Annual Benefit

As community-based nonprofit Breakthrough partners with neighbors in Chicago’s Garfield Park community, it has been challenging to see the needs for food, income and housing become exacerbated during a sustained pandemic. Yet, there is always reason for joy and celebration — every graduation, meal served, new apartment leaseholder and safe community event.

Breakthrough Graduation

This intersection of lament and joy reveals the full spectrum of Breakthrough’s story and also informs the theme of its 2022 Annual Benefit – Joy! This special event is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20. With the option to join virtually, the event can be streamed on YouTube from any location.

“Throughout this evening, you will receive a glimpse into the joy I get to experience at Breakthrough,” says Yolanda Fields, executive director of Breakthrough. “You will see and hear how people help change people’s lives.”

Since 1992, Breakthrough has provided intentional programs with compassion. What began as a drop-in center for men experiencing homelessness has grown to include services across the areas of housing, youth education and development, violence prevention, health and wellness, and economic opportunity. The Annual Benefit also will be a celebration of the nonprofit’s 30-year history.

“We have a bold vision,” Fields says. “We envision that everyone in our neighborhood can reach their full potential; no one is without stable housing or food, every student is well-prepared for the next level, and wealth is built.”
